Nina wasn’t sure whether she wanted to knock on the door or hold her breath and pinch her nose. Unfortunately, as distasteful as the whole meeting was to her, it had to be done. After trying to learn under her sire, Renee’s tutelage, she had a far better chance of achieving her goals with Alastair, no matter how odious she truly found him. Renee was beyond the normal reaches of dislike. Her own hatred for Nina has blossomed and she was poised like a deranged hen over its own egg, ready to devour before it has a chance to hatch. Nina silently prayed to whatever deity might be out there that Alastair was at least a little better.

And so, she knocked.
